Particle, VR and Cool Event Kit – November 15th 2018

15th November from 6.30pm - Uni Days, Nottingham

What's it about?

Particle IoT, VR and Cool Event Kit!

What will we be doing?

William Steen – From concept to ramp-up: Developing Connected Products using the Particle IoT Platform:

Will will be talking to us about his experience with the Particle IoT Platform, and how he has developed Connected Products using it.

Aviva Caller – Mistakes of a Noob VR Developer:

With no knowledge of 3D or VR development, Aviva developed a virtual reality scuba training tool for her dissertation, to investigate if a practical scuba skill taught in VR, could be applied in the real world. The talk will cover the development platforms, multiple VR packages, hundreds of iterations and thousands of mistakes involved in making the prototype and conducting the testing.

Oli Folkerd – Building Crazy Contraptions for Marketing Events:

The team at Event Engineering spend their days building crazy contraptions for marketing events. From turning full sized cars into racing simulators to building video walls out of phones and tablets. We spend a lot of our time hacking devices apart, seeing what makes them tick, and then making them do things their creators had never imagined.

Over the course of the talk, Oli will take you through some of the projects we have worked on, from synced VR experiences to slow motion water slides, and explain some of the technical challenges we faced working with many different devices and how we overcame them.

He will also focus on the wide variety of IP compatible protocols that are available for devices to communicate with each other and show how you too can benefit from technology beyond the basic HTTP request. Some of the topics covered will include WebSocket, Bonjour, UDP/TCP, broadcast UDP, OSC & MPC

What do we need to bring?

Yourself and a willingness to learn!
